Second story residential addition, 2008
This project incorporated the construction of a highly energy efficient and passive solar designed second story addition to an existing residence. Techniques used were advanced framing techniques with recycled content blown in cellulose and exterior foam insulation to prevent any thermal bridging. This ensured a highly insulated and efficient performing living space. In addition south facing windows were optimized with appropriate overhangs to assure passive solar heating in the winter months while shaded in the summer months (without the use of shades or any operable components). The existing heating and ventilation system was upgraded with high efficiency equipment and all interior spaces were finished with non-toxic low VOC paints and finishes.
