Historic Adobe Residence, 2005
Extensive eco-rehabilitation of historic Santa Fe Adobe Estate
Featured in Su Casa Magazine, Spring 2007
This home was originally built in the 1930's in the classic Santa Fe style. Double wall adobes (walls two feet thick) and viga ceilings with flat roof. When Palo Santo Designs first arrived on the scene in the spring of 2005 the house was in desperate need of repair, modernizing and air quality upgrade. Years of roof leaks and wall-to-wall carpeting made the smell of mildew prevalent in every room. The place had been build onto in the 50's and again in the 90's making difficult transitions from the old parts to the new. The dark small rooms were uncomfortable. In coordination with Courtenay Mathey and Associates Architects, Palos Santo Designs began the painstaking process of undoing the wrongs cleaning up the rot and moisture problems and opening walls to create bigger and more open spaces. We tore the old roofing off and re-roofed with high efficiency applied in place foam roofing. Replaced skylights and upgraded the heating system to improve heating efficiency. Fresh plaster, new non-toxic finishes on the floors and FSC certified hardwood details brought this place back to life. A new light and clean feeling pervades the entire home providing a happier healthier environment for the owners.
